Andrew S. Townley, Founder and Managing Director of Archistry Limited, announced today that he will be presenting at the first S&T European information security conference, InfoSecWeek, to be held May 14-18th in Zagreb. Mr. Townley will be giving two presentations in the management track: "Identity Management: The Foundation of Your Enterprise Architecture" and "Service Oriented Architecture: The Security Implications of the Agile Enterprise." These presentations are targeted at senior managers and business leaders who are currently grappling with these issues in their organizations.
Both of Mr. Townley's presentations are aimed to illustrate how information assurance is simply an aspect of what he calls "enterprise architecture in the large" and specifically looks at the relationships between Identity Management, Service Oriented Architecture and Enterprise Architecture.
"Many people overlook the fact that the identities being managed within an Identity Management program don't exist in isolation—they exist in the context of the constantly-changing structure of the organization. People and systems come and go, mergers and acquisitions and new technologies necessary to facilitate better service delivery to customers and trading partners seem to appear every week. The only way to manage this type of ongoing change is to understand how the roles and responsibilities within the business can be mapped to an identity management system in a predictable and manageable way," said Mr. Townley. "The presentation on Identity Management is to help get people to see the way the big picture fits together instead of being focused on fighting the day-to-day fires that come up. No one starts out to have an Identity Management nightmare, and regular reminders of what some of the root causes of those fires actually are is the only way to avoid them in the future."
Mr. Townley will also be speaking about the security challenges posed by Service Oriented Architectures as they begin to enter your organization. "Too many people are focused on the technology enablers of SOA and fail to realize that SOA is really a way to view how the organization performs its core business," Mr. Townley said. "From an information assurance perspective, the key issue with SOA are understanding exactly what makes up the services being offered or used by your organization. It isn't about systems and applications, it's about functions and service levels. It also ties in well with the Identity Management presentation, because if you don't have a handle on the identity management issues in an SOA, you're in serious trouble."
